To celebrate "Star Wars" Day, we thought it would be fun to take a look back at the storied history of "Star Wars" video games to select the very best titles released so far. Unsurprisingly, no release date has been announced yet, but were curious to see what David Cage and his team will do with the iconic sci-fi franchise. It features new species and planets from the Star Wars universe, as it takes us to the politics of the Outer Rim. In 2021, a revived studio called Lucasfilm Games began partnering with different developers to create new "Star Wars" games like"Star Wars: Eclipse," an upcoming story-driven adventure from the creators of "Heavy Rain" and "Detroit: Become Human." The rumor has been around for a while now but Star Wars Eclipse is indeed the next project by Brench studio Quantic Dream.

Electronic Arts delivered several "Star Wars" games using the license, including the single-player adventure Jedi: Fallen Order and the space combat simulator Squadrons. Disney then licensed the "Star Wars" brand to Electronic Arts, one of the largest video game makers in North America. "Star Wars" creator George Lucas founded Lucasfilm Games in 1982, prior to the release of "Return of the Jedi." The game development branch of Lucas' company was eventually renamed LucasArts, and went on to publish dozens of games for computers, game consoles, and arcades.ĭisney acquired Lucasfilm for $4 billion in 2012, but decided to close the company's internal video game studio. A listing on the PS Store database suggests the PS5-only Star Wars Jedi Survivor release date is early 2023. While the original "Star Wars" film trilogy cemented the series' legacy, the video games and books in the "Star Wars" extended universe helped fuel a massive fandom that continues to thrive today. Star Wars Jedi Survivor has just been spotted on the Playstation Store database and it looks like the Jedi Fallen Order sequel might be coming out sooner than expected.
